| Stated aim of project |
|
The aim was to improve quality of local life, save energy and create an example which can be followed by other local authorities in urban areas. The energy related design of the solar buildings has, among others, the following benefits:
• The systems of central heating and of production of hot water for household use are based on solar energy, while they also take advantage of the climatic conditions in the area.
• The position of the houses is such that it reduces the circulation of cold wind among the houses during the winter, thus reducing the need for heating, while it enhances the protection from the sun during the summer, thus reducing the need for cooling. In addition, special insulating materials reduce thermal losses.
• The green areas have been created in such a way that they do not hamper the solar energy exploitation, while offering sufficient green space to the inhabitants.
• The special construction of the village allows for the storage and use of rain water, for example for irrigating local green areas. |
