  Summer 2002

(Projected)
completion date:
  Spring 2005

Number of units concerned:   95 new build homes, 12 of which have solar power generation.

Estimated cost of project:   £7,485/kw (£97,000)

Details of any State/EU funding received:   £6,845/kw (£89,000) was State funded

Stated aim of project   The scheme had three main aims: sustaining the local community near the site of their existing homes whilst renewing the housing, providing high quality design and specification, to maximise tenant satisfaction and low maintenance requirement, developed with a high level of tenant participation and addressing fuel poverty, health and CO2 production through high levels of energy efficiency leading to low cost in use. The scheme also aimed to monitor the effect of the photovoltaic (PV) systems on reducing fuel bills. To learn lessons how to integrate small-scale PV into homes and understand the issues with regard to metering, supply and distribution. To understand the energy saving/generation potential of such units and the realistic cost of installation. And finally, to determine customer interest in such systems. The scheme is the first Scottish urban project to employ PV cells to partly meet tenant’s electrical requirements.
