The Environment and Renewable Energy Fund has been set up to enhance the long term sustainability of the Northern Ireland energy system in a way which will increase the security and diversity of supply. It is also hoped that new skills will be encouraged, jobs created and that it will contribute to a reduction in energy costs which will alleviate fuel poverty. The Housing Executive, as Northern Ireland’s HECA Authority and major social housing landlord, has also been successful in a bid to the fund and has been awarded £1.8 million over two years to install around 600 solar thermal panels in its own properties. |
