Oak Meadow is a scheme of 35 homes for rent, with 23 houses and 12 flats. Tenants played a key role in the design and development of their homes. Building materials were chosen to minimise the environmental impact, as well as being locally purchased, when possible, from sustainable sources.
The homes deliver very high energy efficiency standards, reduce CO2 emissions and use water-saving appliances and rainwater collection. The landscaping minimises the road layout area and provides wildlife habitats and natural drainage. With a combination of energy conservation and environmental design, this development in north Devon has won two major awards, the Green Apple Award 2003 and the National Homebuilders Award 2005 for the Best Social Housing Development. |
