| Stated aim of project |
|
The project aimed to introduce the use of biomass/wooden pellet heating systems into social housing developments. The Salzburg development featured a system with a capacity of 50kw, while the larger Kuchl scheme had a 65kw capacity. The scheme demonstrates that biomass is the cheapest form of heating – with costs per household an estimated €400 a year less per than oil or gas-fired systems. Although initial start-up costs for biomass heating schemes are significantly higher than with oil or gas, this is compensated by long-term financial and environmental savings. This scheme has shown that biomass heating technology may be used on its own, or in conjunction with existing oil and gas technologies. |
