Klaus Lugger, Wolfgang Amann (Hrsg.)
Language: German
Available from: IBW - Institut fur Immobilien, Bauen und Wohnen GmbH, Wien

Abstract:
Austria, which was 50 years ago a poor country, could be now an example for the whole of the EU for its successful model of social housing: there are secure subsidies for construction and the tax exemptions for housing cooperatives is together with the law on the housing cooperatives a well functioning social balancing instrument for different generations. The reslut is that the Austrians pay now for years a low housing cost tax. The book sets this Austrian social housing model in an European perspective.

Hosing & the Welfare State. The development of Housing policy in Britain. (2005)
Peter Malpass

Language: English
Available from: Palgrave macmillan

Abstract:
Sometimes regarded as the 'wobby pillar' under the welfare state, housing looks more like the pathfinder for 'modernized' public services where markets are dominant. Drawing on many years of original research, Peter Malpass provides a new, historically grounded, account of British housing policy. Challenging many conventional notions, he presents a bold reinterpretation of the relationship between housing and the welfare state, and highlights the dangers of increased inequality implicit in privatized market-based approaches.

Abstract: This engaging collection sets out to locate housing and social policy beyond its welfare provision context and to apply social theory to contemporary policy and practice. It broadens the scope of analysis to place housing policy and its impacts in its wider economical and political contexts, demonstrates the synthesis of theory with contemporary critiques of policy interventions and uses a range of radical perspectives to challange wider normative assumptions underpinning the framing of housing 'problems' as they apply to a range of social groups.
