|
The project consists of the restoration of 10 buildings arranged in a courtyard formation using environmentally responsible criterias and community involvement in the management and maintainance of the estate.
The property renovation was carried out using energy solutions based largely on solar heating, such as roof-integrated solar collectors and glazed balconies used for water heating and heat recovery on ventilation.
Furthermore, measures to incourage energy saving by the tenants were introduced, such as individual metering of space heating, electricity and water use.
The follow-up through to 2004 has shown that operating costs have been cut by reducing the buildings’ heating, ventilation and hot water requirements by 45%, from 5,000 to just over 2,700 MWh/year.
In 2005 the project won the World Habitat Award, presented by the Building and Social Housing Foundation in cooperation with Un habitat.
