Just one year before the crucial Copenhagen Summit which will determine the future of global climate change policy, this conference will offer a unique opportunity to consider the strategies needed to make energy efficiency a powerful instrument of the EU’s fight against dangerous climate change and evaluate the potential of the EU’s Second Strategic Energy Review to set the scene for the creation of a framework which will allow maximisation of energy efficiency.
WHAT, WHERE, WHEN ?
CECODHAS (The European Liaison Committee for Social Housing) and EEB (The European Environmental Bureau) have decided to join forces to face the challenge of climate change. Both social housing organisations and environmental NGOs have been for a long time committed to contribute to the fight against climate change, in a spirit of partnership with all relevant stakeholders but above all with citizens. Ahead of the crucial 2009 Copenhagen Summit and following the publication of the Second EU Strategic Energy review and the proposal for revision of Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), this conference is a unique opportunity to assess the strategies in place and to consider those needed to make energy efficiency a powerful instrument of climate change policies but also social policies.
What actions do we need to carry-out at Member States and/or EU level to promote low energy houses? The first session will be devoted to presentation and discussion on the EPBD from different stakeholders and how to improve it. In the second session we will have in-depth presentations of some of the ongoing work in some Member States; and proposals for future actions at EU.
The conference will take place at the European Economic and Social Committee, Rue Belliard 99-101 Bruxelles, Room JDE-62, from 09:00 – 17:00
During the conference, results of the project InoFIn will be presented and discussed
WHO WILL SPEAK ?
Representatives of the European Commission and of the European Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI), Members of the European Economic and Social Committee, Social Housing organisations (AEDES, Holland and GdW, Germany), tenants associations (IUT), Environmental NGOs (WWF), representatives of the industry (Eurima), Partners of European Projects in the field of energy efficiency (InoFin, ESAM…). That is to say many of the relevant stakeholders in this crucial debate.
