As a response to the increasing mobility of people in modern society, a “Ring” of housing co-operatives has been created by housing co-operatives in different regions of Switzerland. Wogeno rents its houses as a whole to a tenants’ association of which all tenants are members. The co-operative society sets some basic rules but leaves as much as possible for the members of each individual house association to decide. In this way, the advantages of large size of the housing co-operative are combined with the advantages of closeness to members in small and relatively autonomous sub-groups of members/tenants. Wogeno has formed a savings association where persons can place money safely for reasonable,
socially motivated purposes and at the same time support the aims of the co-operative society. Such deposits earn good interest and can be withdrawn at favourable conditions. |
